Okay all you swimmers and triathletes out there....I know there are a few of you who are readers. Am I nuts?! I feel like I'm nuts. So you know that yesterday we swam laps for the first time and I totally don't know how to swim. The biking is going to be fine and the running will be fine. But running after all that swimming and all that biking?! Tonight, we biked for 30 minutes and then ran a couple miles. It's the transitioning that is so weird. My legs just felt jelloish and heavyish, but not too bad.
I keep thinking, "oh, I should run a half marathon instead of the triathlon" or "I should totally do the Dirty Dash (it's a mud run/obstacle course) instead of the triathlon"..."those things are way more up my alley". But then I think I should just suck it up, learn how to swim, give it my best, and enjoy doing something totally out of my comfort zone.
First thing this morning, I used my neighbors bike that has a baby seat on the front of it and took Landon and Sophie for a bike ride. Sophie rode her Strider. She's getting really good at it. It was so much fun. I haven't ridden a bike in years. I really don't understand why we adults stop doing things that were so fun as kids. Like adult like has to be so productive and boring. It just makes me really greatful to be an at-home mom so I can be a silly kid and play tag and play in the sprinklers and pretend to be a pirate and pretend to be a princess and ride bikes. Life as a kid is GOOD :)
PS Landon LOVED loved LOVED riding in the seat on the bike with me. I totally need to buy my own bike. For the fun of the family! It was rockin awesome. We played pirates at the park too. Good day. Now time for good sleep before we go camping tomorrow. Sophie's been begging for camping all summer. She's beyond elated!

yay for triathlons! my advice would be to swim after workouts as much as you can. i didn't swim enough before my race and i regreted it but i really learned to LOVE it. you will get the hang of swimming and find yourself getting faster and faster. as far as jelly legs after biking...that is just something i had to get used to so i am no help there.
Swimming takes a lot of practice. The most important thing is to get your breathing rhythm down. Second most important is getting your head down and your body inline laying flat on the water (so you're not dragging yourself).
Swimming is my favorite thing ever. Stick with it, eventually it feels great. And its really good for you, especially when you're old. ( =
