See what a great mommy she is?

The little guy surprised me and figured out how to drink water out of a sippie cup a couple days ago. I'm not too hip on the idea of buying baby food. So, I'm wondering. Have ya'll made your own baby food? Did you buy a recipe book or just steam and puree the basic fruits and veggies? Anyone done any research on the cost savings of doing it yourself?
Many thanks!!

I made my own for Gideon and he liked it so much better than store bought. Plus it's cheaper. Wholesomebabyfood.com is a good website for recipes. You can use fresh or frozen veggies. Frozen is a little cheaper in the long run. We still bought a few jars for traveling and when we were out and about. Easier than carrying around frozen food. Good luck and I warn you now you'll become addicted. Also, a hand blender works a lot better than a regular one. A strainer is nice to have also for peas and green beans.
I totally plan on making my own baby food the next time around. I have a food mill - that would probably work really well (I use it for apple sauce and other canning endeavors), but I think a food processor would work best (I LOVE my food processor - totally worth the money). That's how I made all the veggie and fruit purees when I was on that Deceptively Delicious cookbook (you know, that cookbook by Jerry Seinfeld's wife) kick. Worked great. Good luck! And kudos to your super-organized friend...geez, I wish I were like that...
My friend swears by the Beaba Baby food maker. SHE LOVES IT. I'm not sure where you get it...but i'm sure you could google it.
I know michelle makes her own food for blake and uses the a magic bullet - easy to do portion control she says.
I have this thing you use to grind up whatever food you are eating. So I have used that. Or you could totally use you magic bullet.
My friend just had a post on her blog about this:

I also have a pamphlet from when Ellie was a baby on the topic, if you're interested!
You are too cute! Thanks for the props, I hope you have as much fun and as much luck as I have had. McKinley loves the food, and we go through it like water. It's so much fun to make too! :) Good luck!
Oh Heather, I only dream of being organized. I just knew that I would be taking pictures for my blog and the whole world to see, so I put them in nice lines. Haha, it's true!
