CHALLENGE ADDICT :)

If there's anything I love (besides vacation), it's a new challenge. Although, this time, I'm worried I've bitten off more than I can chew. Or, RUN! I joined a team to run the Wasatch Back Ragnar Relay. 12 people running 3 legs each totaling 188 miles. CRAZY overnight race. It's mid-June and the training schedule starts next week. Do you know, the longest race I've ever run is a 5K? Do you know that I said, "Hey, if I can deliver a baby sans drugs at 3:30 am, I can totally run this race?"

Guess who didn't think about the fact that she didn't need her knees to deliver that baby. Yeah ME. Guess who ran for only 20 minutes the other day and her knees were hurting. Yeah ME. So, now I'm downing 2 Procosa (Glucosamine supplements) with breakfast and dinner and I need to do some beneficial cross-training to strengthen my knees on the off running day. Ice, elevate. What else should I do? If any of you have a husband who's got letters after his name because he knows what a runner should do (hint hint Jessica :) and want to give me any recommendations on how I will survive this race, send them my way.

I've been in a major blog rut lately. I can't tell you how many posts I've started and never finished. So, maybe I'll dedicate this blog to my running journey.

And I'll end with this positive note - I AM running this race and I WILL love every second of it. I've heard people talking about running these relay races before and it's one of those life experiences that you look back on and talk about for years and laugh about what a crazy good time it was. I'm all for those insane adventurous moments and the fact that it will get my booty looking good in my teeny jeans in time for my trip back to Indiana for my friends wedding, well, that's just an incredibly wonderful added perk. Running is definitely good for hot legs :) YAY!

Here's a picture of Jodi and I right after the finish line at the 5K race with our cheerleaders.

My dad runs marathons, his version of a midlife crisis. He does the glucosomine and Ibuprofen. Make sure you have great running shoes as well. You can do it!

You need to work out your inner and outer legs. Make sure you work them out equally so the muscles don't start pulling your kneecap in different directions (wish i knew the technical terms for all of this so it would sound more offical) Plus, heed to the rule of only increasing 10%. And... pre-train. But kind of late for that. Sorry. Your knees will be ok after a month or so.

Woo-hoo! You can do it! Racing must be the thing this year. I'm going to try my first race this year. A triathalon. I'm crazy, but I'm like you...onward and upward right? I'm crossing my fingers it will be fun. I don't have any advice on the pain thing. In fact I need some. It seems like after I work out, I feel like I'm getting the flu. The muscle aches and pains. You can do and thanks for checking in with me!

Jenn Bullen ran that race last year - I used to volunteer at the race every year. I WOULD LOVE TO RUN the wasatch back. The good thing is the most you will probably do is 5 miles - 3 times - all with little to no sleep.
Good running shoes are the key to hurting knees. I used to have horrible knee problems - till I got good shoes, and socks. As far as drugs I don't have any reccomendations - take it slow and you will be fine!! I'm so jealous you are running that race!!! GOOD LUCK - excited to hear all about it.
