PROJECTS - YOUR OPINION NEEDED

My carpet, especially in my living room is DISGUSTING! It's almost 10 years old and yes, the previous owners had it shampooed when they moved out 2 years ago, but it looks like nasty trash. I can't stand it (obviously). I plan to replace it next summer, so it needs to be shampooed ASAP, like preferably before baby comes. Adam doesn't mind it, so he doesn't care if it gets shampooed, so do I talk him into spending $100 to have someone else do it or do I borrow my friends shampooer and do it myself this Saturday and hope it puts me into labor and that I get it done before it's time to push baby out...hahaha!

Project #2 - basket liners for baby's room. I had intentions of making them with the leftover material from everything else in baby's room, but it's not going to work out. I could make two (need four) and have the pieces cut, but sewing machine is having bobbin issues and I'm really not motivated to do it. The basket liners that came with the baskets are pink/white gingham. Here's my question - should I just buy some RIT and dye them? What is your experience with dying things and is it a risk worth taking with the washing machine?

Thanks for your 2 cents!

I would do it myself, but I dont hire anything out. So whatever you feel like doing!

I would do it myself. As a word of advice, just use hot water. If you use soap/shampoo and you don't get it all up then it attracts more dirt in those spots and depending on the soap mold/fungus can grow. So just use really hot water.
And I'm not sure about the dye.

I dyed a pair of shorts and they turned out great. it didn't even ruin the washing machine. I think you will be fine. Have you looked at the basket liners at Roberts? they have a lot of cute designs there!

I did my carpets a couple of weeks ago... but I swear they get dirty so fast. I too need to get my carpets replaced.
