UPDATE ON THE RIGGS FAM

Grammy Riggs came to town last weekend and we had such a fun time. Sophie adores her and had tons of fun playing tea party with Grammy and especially loved unraveling her yarn and watching Grammy wind it back up. Grammy also helped Mommy decorate the kitchen (hello, how long have we lived here?!?!). I don't know how anyone lives without curtains because they add so much to a room. I got curtains up and we decorated above the cabinets. Maybe someday my kitchen will be clean enough for a picture.

Speaking of the kitchen...why is it that every time I'm pregnant, the kitchen becomes the worst place in the world? It smells funky and is filled with food that totally grosses me out. YUCK YUCK YUCK!!! I just want to eat out - food prep and dishes = smelly pukiness. Eating out would require a shower though. Ayaiyai! Does anyone else that gets pregnant have the kitchen problem?

Next topic: exhaustion!! When we took Grammy Riggs to Salt Lake to fly home, we stopped by Aunt Hilary's house for some much needed cousin time. Hilary and I were talking about pregnancies and how it should feel like the greatest time in life - physically. It is such a miraculous blessing to be able to grow a baby inside of you, so why does it feel like such a curse sometimes? I feel like an ungrateful sinner writing this because I have enough friends that can't have babies to know it's a blessing, but I'm going to be a complainer today because I feel like a horrible mom sticking Sophie in front of the tv all day while I nap on the couch, after I got nearly 12 hours of sleep. Seriously! I went to bed at 7 last night...tried to anyway. I kept thinking I heard Sophie up and walking into my room. When Adam got home from a late night soccer game, he confirmed my suspicion. She was at least in her room, but under her bed. Sweet girl went back to her room when she saw mom was asleep.

I haven't blogged about the switch to toddler bed yet. The day Adam's mom came into town, I was cleaning Sophie's room and spontaneously decided to convert the crib into toddler bed. So far so good. Sophie does get out of bed here and there, but it's not as bad as I thought it would be. I should give my kid more credit! Next up, potty training and binkies in the trash (although I don't know when we'll do either).

Sophie also had her first dentist appointment. The dentist isn't sure if she has the one bottom front tooth that hasn't come in. She wouldn't let us take x-rays. He said it's possible that it's not come in yet because of the bink. The two top teeth above that tooth haven't come down as far as her other two, possibly because of the bink. Clearly, it's time to trash the stinkin binks! Sophie's not too hip on the idea though.

I eat out A LOT when I'm pregnant. I can't stand the smells and how food looks before it gets cooked. We go in the kitchen to get drinks and for breakfast, other than that it is usually avoided during my first trimester. If you go through the drive through you don't really have to shower!
I would have Sophie walk around the house with a ziploc and put all her binkies in it. Do this the morning of trash day, then have her walk the bag out to the trash cans and put it in. Watch for when the trash man comes and point out that HE is the one taking them. That way later on when she is upset she can be mad at him and not you. This worked for both of my girls and they never really asked for them again. At night time and nap time it was a bit rough for the first 2 days, but they got through it. I just asked them where they went and they said the trash man took them and that was it. They knew we had taken ALL of the binkies and put them in the bag, so there wasn't one hiding in the house.
Good Luck!

I would totally complain all the time if I were to be pregnant. It's a blessing to have children yes, but no one can say pregnancy isn't a huge sacrifice! Sick, uncomfortable, stretched out, sleeplessness, hormones--it's a lot of not nice things. I'd have to say, having never been pregnant, the best part is it's just 40 weeks and then you have a beautiful baby and your baby recieves the gift of life. ( =

I totally had the kitchen problem, remind me to tell you my crock pot story :) And yes I felt like Kira sat in front of the TV 24/7 while I laid on the couch and felt miserable!

Totally had the kitchen problems! I couldn't even open the door to my pantry without getting nauseous. We ate out a lot, too. I could NOT prepare food. Nothing sounded good, etc. Hopefully it passes for you soon!
