My new friend (and business partner) Andrea just launched a website with her mom called All About Preparedness. I SO needed this website. It's incredibly thorough (note: it's not quite finished yet) but it's not overwhelming. With the recent election and icky economy, I'm a little worried that I'm not at all prepared for anything but my comfortable status quo. I didn't really think the economy was effecting me until I got an email from My Girlfriends Kitchen saying they were closing (of all places *tear*). Did I mention it was the DAY BEFORE my Rose Foundation fundraiser was starting with them. Needless to say, it was canceled. All of a sudden, I'm thinking, what if I lose my Rose job, what if Adam loses his biggest client...eek! I'm not freaking out, but it's definitely got me thinking about the repetitive messages I've received to be prepared. So, if you're like me and only have a few things on the shelf in your food storage, get on the website and let's get prepared! Oh, PS, I'm not totally horrible....I did order a #10 can of dried onion flakes the other day :)
Happy Preparing :)

I've always worried we won't be prepared enough if a disaster were to strike here. I was so relieved when we finally got a 55 gallon barrel for water. PHEW! And it's so nice to have food storage to rotate so you're not always running to the grocery store for basic things. Let me know if you find any good deals!
I feel the same way sometimes. I'll start thinking about how much we have saved and about our food storage and get all nervous. For food storage, I just buy extras of the basics (pasta, beans, rice), stuff that we'll actually rotate. My big focus right now is getting out of debt completely (except for the house) and getting a good 3-6 month emergency fund. But I'll definitely check out the website.
P.S. - did you see Twilight? I thought it was okay...all the estrogen in the room was a little distracting though. Women were sighing, gasping, you name it all in unison when Edward would come on. It was pretty funny...and troubling. ;)
After the windstorm that nearly crushed our house two years ago I went out and bought 450 lbs of wheat. I really hope we don't ever have to live on it. A friend of mine went out and bought tons of Snicker bars. Their thought is, when times are hard what are you going to give all you have to eat. ( = I have to chuckle at their preparedness perspective. Seriously, would you rather have wheat on hand or snickers bars?
I have been trying to work on our food storage. My view though is you have to store things your family will eat. Its hard this time of year though. Josh and I asked that our parents give us food storage this year instead of other gifts.
I will totally have to check this out and send it to my mother in law. Hopefully there will never be a shortage for teachers. But who knows. Thanks again
ooh thanks for the info! When I shop I just try to buy extra of what we eat, even if it is just 2 boxes of mac & cheese but it has helped fill our storage up. Also every month the ward has something new to buy for storage so I set money aside each month for that.
