UPDATE ON THE DRIVE.....TWILIGHT!

So, I finally gave into Utah culture and started reading the Stephanie Meyer Twilight series.  After an 8 hour drive, I have less than a hundred pages to go and I love it!  I wasn't resisting culture per se, but everyone I know that reads this series gets so obsessed they drop everything!  That's just not something I was willing to do.  But an 8 day vacation at a cabin in the mountains presented the perfect opportunity to get in some leisure reading and I don't regret it one bit.  I borrowed the first two books from my friend and avid reader Jessa.  I'm hoping someone in my family has the third one here, because I'm thinking I might get through the first two with a few days left to go in the vacation.  We'll see.

Oh, I guess I called this update on the drive.  So, I should tell you, Sophie was amazing.  She's such a good child :)  It totally helped a TON that I bought her a couple new surprises for the trip.  We went to WalMart before we left (I had to get some essentials - diapers, swim diapers, sunscreen, etc.), so we stopped in the toy section and found an Elmo book/cd set she wanted, but then we wandered over to the HUGE clearance section and found a different Elmo toy, a school bus with the alphabet on it.  It was on sale for $15, but I don't spoil her with toys, so I decided to get it.  Plus, the book/cd set was more expensive and a little damaged.  I also grabbed some of the foam beads from the craft section.  I think she could've strung beads for nearly half the trip and been content.  She loved it.  I was really impressed with how quickly she was able to stick the tiny needle (plastic, of course) through the little bead hole.  Great finger dexterity :)

As always with vacation, it was hard for us all to fall asleep.  I tried getting Sophie to go down around 10 ish.  It took forever.  I tried the floor first, where I wanted her to sleep, but when that didn't work, I brought her in bed and after some tossing and turning around, she finally fell asleep, basically on the edge of the bed.  So, afraid to wake her up after an exhausting day (she only slept about 30 minutes in the car), I put pillows on the floor next to and hoped for the best.  When Adam and I went in the room to get bed an hour or so later, so was on the floor.  Poor girl was so out of it, she didn't even wake up when she fell off the bed.  We didn't move her from that spot either until she started moving around and kicking the nightstand that was next to the bed.  It was all kind of funny and kind of annoying because I was so tired.  I was ultimately just grateful she was asleep :)  What more can a mom ask for?

Going on vacation can be tough on kids. They aren't sleeping in familiar surroundings and no matter what, its not their bed.
Right before we left for vacation I picked up a bunch of new toys to entertain the girls and it worked out well. I hope you are having a great time.

Okay, I kinda hate you! No, I'm totally kidding.. Just EXTREMELY jelous! EVEN NOW Cameron can't handle a 5 hr. drive to Monticello! We borrowed a friend DVD player (thinking he'd LOVE to watch movies) and he was bored watching the first movie within 20 minutes. UGH! Anyawys I'm soooo glad she was happy and good on the drive! Also, YAY for Twilight! I can't WAIT for you to read them all so we can have lengthy discussions about them! ;) Have a GREAT vacation!

Glad you are enjoying a little vacation. I'm with you on these books, it's hard for me to drop everything. So vacation sounds like the perfect time to read. I personally only read the first one so I could see what everyone in the ward was talking about.
