As soon as I saw the flames in the stove, I ran to the basement door and yelled down to Adam, "WE HAVE A FIRE!" Then I grabbed the baking soda. Adam flew up the stairs and opened the stove, I threw the soda on. Flame went out on the first toss of soda. I gave it a second, just to be sure :)
Adam told me he totally thought half the kitchen was on fire by the way I yelled it down to him.
Ah...hahahahahaha! Pretty sure I would've said "GET THE KIDS AND GET OUT, WE HAVE A FIRE!!!" if it were that bad.
Sophie started crying because the fire was out before she got upstairs and she really wanted to see it.
Now that I'm reflecting on the whole ordeal. A) Why didn't Adam grab Sophie on his way up (she was also in the basement?!) and B) I can't believe our smoke detectors didn't go off. Our kitchen was FILLED with smoke.
It's a wonder I didn't have nightmares of the house burning down last night, especially considering MASTERGUARD did a great job freaking me out about fires and I had nightmares about house fires for a long time after seeing their *Free dinner presentation. They have awesome fear tactics that get people to spend $30,000 on fire alarms. Maybe it was only $16,000. I don't know. But, it's a ridiculous price, although I'll probably get them in our dream home :)

I was waiting for the April Fools at the bottom, since I didnt see it, I am assuming this really happened? You were hoping to get your cabinets replaced huh? LOL Im glad everyone and thing is ok!
My sister just had a fire in the middle of the night. It was much worse the whole house filled with smoke and not one smoke alarm went off.
Im impressed actually!! I think it would take me alot of digging through my cupboard to find my baking soda. Hmm maybe its a lesson for all of us to keep it in close quarters.

I too am impressed that your baking soda was ready at hand. I would have had to dig to find mine. I also would have been questioning why Adam didn't think to grab Sophie, Matt would've done the same thing. Let's hope if this were to ever happen again, that he would grab the kids.
Wow, way to think fast! I went to that presentation too and they had me so freaked out I nearly spent the thousands of dollars. And yes I had nighmares for weeks!
