DIRT AND RAIN....AHHHH!

I love the smell of dirt and rain. Sophie and I practically live outside right now. Her obsessions: riding her bike and swinging on the swingset. Mommy's obsession: digging up weeds. Yeah, you read that right, digging up weeds. I'm the freak neighbor who is outside digging up her yard all day. Oh yeah, it's filled with holes. Because half of my backyard lawn is WEEDS! Oh ugly weeds. Are you wondering why we don't just spray them with weed killer? Oh, we've done that...twice now. They are starting to die. BUT, I loathe their existence and therefore am not patient enough for the unsightliness to disappear. So, I continue to dig. I'd say I'm halfway done at this point. Not bad. As soon as they are all gone, I'll dig up the hollyhocks that have popped up since I dug all those up and then, I'll put grass seed in all the holes.

Luckily, Adam has taken control over the garden and it's growing.

I've also managed to make more progress on Sophie's scrapbook and am proud to say, I'm one two-page spread away from being done. I'm just waiting on Corinne to get me the pics she has of my sweet little thing!

Next project: sewing. Lot's of projects on the sewing list. AND, reading Love & Logic. I need to find a copy to borrow. I think Sophie's at that age where it's really starting to matter how we respond to her and well, I want to be a great mom. After I read that one, I'm going to read Raising a Daughter.

Oh yeah, my title also mentions rain. It was a lovely day today. Cloud cover most of the day which made for a lovely time of sidewalk chalk with our friends at the park. Then rain this afternoon. It was warm enough to sit outside and enjoy the smell. And the best thing about Spring....visiting with neighbors. My neighbors see me outside, they come to chat. I love it!!

Two questions: What's your favorite thing about Spring? And if you're a parent, what is your favorite parenting book?

Holy cow - I can TOTALLY relate about the lawn thing. We have the dandelions and other weeds are all over (I blame the weed-infested yard behind us - the rhizomes are spreading to our yard, I'm afraid) and they drive me NUTS! But my favorite thing about spring is seeing everything coming back, especially the lilacs in my yard. Yay! As for a favorite parenting book - I've read so many, but one of my favorite health ones is "Healthy Child, Whole Child" because it's an integrative approach to health; my other favorite, though not a parenting book per se, is "The Read-Aloud Handbook" - that should be required reading for every parent, grandparent, and teacher in my opinion. Wow, sorry, long comment.

Wow, sounds like you're keeping busy! We've been spending a lot of time outside lately, too. We're loving the warm weather! My favorite things about spring are all of the flowers and changes in nature, and enjoying the sunshine!

P.S. Did you ever find out what you're having?!

I love the smell of fresh cut grass. I don't have much time to read, so I don't have a book to suggest.

What is up with the dandelions? We had to dig ours up too...tons of holes in the lawn! I hate it!

My favorite thing about spring has to be the flowers (tulips especially). I love taking walks on warm nights, and i love love love that it doesn't get dark until 9:00. My new favorite thing about spring has to be great neighbors and just popping by to spend time together. (Cheesy I know, but I do love it)

If you get done with your yard and still want to play in the dirt, come on over! Great job on your scrapbook :)

I really really love "Love and Logic" we use it everyday. (I even use it on Randy, just today I told him he could go to choir as soon as the dishes were done)

Do you have the regular book or the one for kids. I have a CD but it might be scratched to death.

Julia also told me about 123 Magic. It's good too!
