Okay, so my friend who has the most amazing body anyway told me the other night that she wore a girdle after giving birth to her baby. I had never heard of such a thing!!! She said wear a girdle and squeeze into your smallest jeans as soon as you can so your hips get back down to ideal size. I'm still in shock! How many of you have been keeping this secret from me? I'm all about wearing jammy pants and sweats after giving birth. So, anyway, I'm intrigued and I did some research. Here's what I found on this site: http://www.squidoo.com/MaternityGirdles
There is not alot of evidence to prove if a Post-Partum Girdle is effective. But many women swear by them. The idea is that a post-partum girdle, like a big compression bandage, holds the abdominal tissues together and allows body parts which were pulled apart during pregnancy and birth, to return to their pre-pregnancy shape and position and for the underlying tissues to undergo "reknitting".
In many cultures, abdominal binding after birth is quite common. In several asian and latin american countries, women's mid-sections are routinely bound after pregnancy in order to help women return to a shape similar to their pre-pregnancy days.
In the book "Natural Health After Birth" By Aviva Jill Romm, belly binding in the first month after birth is recommended to help return the uterus to its rightful place. According to Judith Goldsmith, author of "Childbirth Wisdom From the World's Oldest Societies" in some cultures "the abdomen was bound to complete drainage of blood as well as to help contract the uterus".
Your midwife or ObGyn may be able to advise you if a post-partum girdle, worn in the first month after delivery will be of benefit to you.
So, fess up friends. How many of you wear a girdle? Is it something I should invest in?

haha i never thought about that. i wore one on my wedding day thats about it!!! good idea though!!!
You are cute! If you wear a girdle at night too it will eventualy curve your body into that shape. You can continue to tighten the girdle if your purchase the right one, and only take it off at shower time and your body will over time take shape.
I had a friend who wore one, she said it helped a lot. Of coarse I only wore one on my wedding day.
I can't imagine you would need one since you are so tiny and trim already!
my Greatgrams wore one her whole life... she broke her hip apparently when she was 30 while iceskating. But because she never took her gridle off, no one knew she had her hip broken until she was well into her 90's when she could no longer take care of herself and someone else noticed the damages. hahahah. Poor thing. I think she was a little too hooked on it. But she did have a teeny tiny waist.
Um no girdles... SPANX! They rock!
Do it Do it Do it!!!! It totally helped me. I don't care what research says, women that have been doing it, especially those little oriental chicks have been able to squeeze those hips back together. Oh by the way, I'm having to much fun with the belly dancing, thanks for letting me borrow the DVD!!
