Yesterday, we enjoyed a relatively chill Thanksgiving dinner at my Moms house. My sister was spending the day with her in-laws, so Sophie was the only child around, so it was kind of quiet. We enjoyed playing games, eating, and helping my Mom put up her Christmas decor. Sophie was especially excited as she is recently obsessed with Christmas trees. I'm looking forward to putting up our tree soon! We're going to wait until after Sophie's birthday party so it doesn't get wrecked by 2/3/4 yr olds.
Today, I got up at 4 AM and shopped. I felt like Santa Claus. It was so much fun. I had to make a stop at my moms to unload because my car filled up fast! Adam's wish list included large tools and I also picked up lots of storage containers that took up a lot of space. By the time I got home, I was almost disgusted at all the things Sophie is getting for Christmas. Adam and I laid everything out on the living room floor and decided what we were giving her for birthday, Christmas and what we were going to save for a rainy day. I have a few things I'm keeping until next year. How much can a 2 year old handle with out going into sensory overload? I think next year I won't go shopping during the months of November through January except to the grocery store so I can avoid the temptation of "My kid needs that!" Whew! It was hard to pass up the fabulous deals, so I'm glad I had a very specific list of what Sophie was getting. We'll see if I can stay in next year. Maybe I'll be pregnant and won't want to go out anyway. Fun day though. I got myself a sewing machine...basically today is Christmas for Adam and I because we're not going to wrap up our presents. It seems silly since we know what we are getting. Adam already put together all his tools and I'll get my sewing machine out tonight. Sophie is getting Mega Bloks for Christmas, so I want to make a drawstring bag for that. Any of you sewers out there think I need a pattern for that or can I just wing it? What should I use for the string part? (Keep in mind, I can probably count the number of times I've used a sewing machine on both hands). Jodi and I are going to make our girls Aprons. I think we should make ourselves matching ones. I don't have one. Adam is going to use his new tools to build Sophie a large toybox. He might need to build a workbench first though. I'm really excited for the toybox. She's definitely going to need it after birthday and Christmas. One of the most exciting (and most unnexpected to be exciting) purchase was a Wet/Dry Vac. Seems kind of random, I know. It was regularly $89 and I got it for $30. We are always borrowing our friends, so we couldn't pass it up. I grew up with a Dad who always had a particle free garage. No dirt on that floor. So, I'm happy I own a Vac now so I can vacume my garage floor :) yes....i could be a freak :) Thank you Dad!
Tonight, we're hanging at home watching Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 and Iron Man. I really liked Sisterhood...1. So, hopefully the second one is enjoyable. I'm not sure I'll stay up for Iron Man. Anyone else seen Sisterhood 2?
(While I typed this, Sophie ate an orange, some chicken noodle soup, and just inhaled 7 Ritz crackers. She wants more. Her appetite the last few days has been really weird and she takes an hour to eat each meal.)
Hope ya'll had a Happy Thanksgiving!!

The day after Thanksgiving Christmas shopping is so much FUN!! I think it's great you and Adam are using your gifts this year to make something for Sophie. And I'm sure Jodi will help you with draw string bag. She is awesome!
I'm still unsure of what to get my older boys. Enjoy this age when you write their Santa list :)
What a great day for you! What kind of sewing machine did you get? It's easy to make a bag for the mega-blocks. Just cut a large rectangle of fabric, fold it in half and sew up two seams. On the side that is left open make a casing and leave enough open to thread something through for the tie. Call me and I will walk you through it!
On another note, I finished some of Tattum's newborn shoot. The password is tattum. Check them out and let me know what you think!
I love you guys and hope to see you in January!
You're brave, I didnt go out this year... I wasnt feeling the craziness! That and I scheduled family pictures yesterday morning to avoid the temptation when I saw all the ads on Thanksgiving! I was almost done with Christmas anyway, it saves me money because like you, I start to not pass up "good" deals... but what is a good deal anymore!? :) I'm glad you had so much success!
I think you can totally wing the bag. Just make sure you make it big enough to fit all the blocks. You could use a shoe lace for the draw string or they sell rope at Home Depot that works well.
Best of luck! Post pictures! Congrats on your new machine!
WOW you did get some great deals. I find that when I shop with a mad of people I do alot of impulse buying. But way to go on the shop vac thats OSM!!
So Sisterhood 2.. you will have to come watch it when Mary and I come watch it even though you have already seen it.
My girls take FOREVER to eat as well. There are some nights we sit at the table for almost an hour before they decide they're done eating.
Yeah for great deals! I didn't have any desire to go out shopping on Friday.
